How can the constant stream of stimuli from social media and gambling platforms affect daily life and productivity?

I started thinking about this earlier today while trying to clean my room. Every few minutes I’d grab my phone “just to check something,” and then I’d get sucked into scrolling or replying to random messages. It reminded me of when I once visited a small arcade with my friend — people kept jumping from one machine to another because there was always some light or sound pulling their attention. I realized my phone kind of does the same thing in my daily routine. It keeps throwing little distractions at me, and by the end of the day I feel like I did a lot of things, but not the ones I actually planned. I’m wondering how much this constant stimulation really messes with productivity and everyday focus.

I’ve definitely felt that too, and I remember reading this article https://nichegamer.com/the-dopamine-economy-casinos-vs-social-media/

which talks about how both social apps and gambling platforms rely on quick, unpredictable rewards that constantly interrupt our attention. For me, the biggest issue used to be notifications — every buzz made me stop what I was doing, even if it was something small. Eventually I turned off most alerts except for the important ones, and it made a surprisingly big difference. I still catch myself over-checking apps, but at least it doesn’t derail my whole workflow the way it used to. Feels like the first step is just noticing how often those tiny distractions sneak into the day.
